Gower show Sunday 1st August (30 minute
drive from hotel)
9 am to 6 pm
The show is held in the beautiful grounds of Penrice castle, Reynoldston.
This annual Gower agricultural show is a traditional family day out, with police
dog display, classes for livestock, show jumping, vintage engines, crafts and
local produce stalls, fair and much more.
Well situated with local shops, post office and ice cream parlour 5 minutes walk away. A good selection of excellent local restaurants and traditional public houses all within easy walking distance, (1 – 5 Minutes walk). We are a short, 15-minute, walk from Swansea city centre, with its shops, restaurants, Theatres, bars and clubs. We are just 5 Minutes from St Helen’s Rugby/Cricket ground and even closer to the Patti Pavilion and Branwyn Hall were there are often live bands and other events. The Beachcomber is also within walking distance of the university. The guest house is well situated for trips to the Mumbles and the beautiful Gower peninsula. We are also only 40 Minutes drive away from Cardiff along the M4 for the Millennium Stadium.
Swansea boasts some excellent parks and gardens, Olympic size pool, modern town centre, a famous night life and of course the beach. There are many events held throughout the year with something for everyone. For children there is a wide variety of free entertainment and activities held throughout the summer months at the various parks. There is also an outdoor pool and a land train, which will take you right along the seafront to Mumbles. If you are looking for somewhere to stay in Swansea convenient for the town centre and attractions we are just the place.
The rooms are warm and comfortable. We have a mixture of single, twin, and double rooms and one family room. Most are en-suite, of the others: two single rooms have their own showers and wash hand basins and share a WC. Two other rooms have their own wash hand basins and share a shower and WC between them.
We have lots of local information, free maps etc.We especially welcome contractors, couples and families. We can provide a travel cot and high chair at no extra charge. We can cater for one-night stays through to several months contract. You will receive a warm welcome at the Beachcomber!
Our guest house is situated close to the city centre, with easy access via taxi from both the central bus depot and train station. We are situated on the main road where customers may park for loading and unloading, there is also limited overnight parking with time restrictions. There is a free public car park close by, about 2-3 minutes walk.
Access to the guest house is via two low steps, one up from the pavement to our path, the other from the path to our front door.
The ground floor is level throughout and this includes our breakfast room/bar, all this area is clear for wheelchair or push chair access.
Unfortunately the guest house has no ground floor accommodation or ground floor toilet facilities. But we will be more than happy to assist anyone with mobility difficulties with climbing the 15 stairs up to our first floor. We will of course also carry any luggage to and from your room as well.
All our rooms are colour co-ordinated so as not to confuse those customers with visual impairment. Our breakfast room has white crockery with a dark green border, on dark green table clothes.
Guide dogs are welcome at our guest house.
Directions
For public transport we recommend going to:
www.baytrans.org.uk.
This not only gives you all the timetables and information you need but details
many walks, attractions, and things to see and do in Swansea and the Gower.
From the East
Leave the M4 at Junction 42, Swansea Exit.
Follow the dual carriageway, Fabian Way A483, to the city centre, Gower and Mumbles without turning off. As you enter the edge of the city you will pass a large Sainsbury supermarket on the left. Keep going through the Sainsbury’s traffic lights and through 3 more sets of traffic lights. Passing the Leisure centre on your left, and a multi storey car park on your right, and passing under a pedestrian footbridge and through another smaller set of traffic lights, after which the road widens to 4 lanes and you will see a large Tesco supermarket on your right. Continue straight ahead and continue through the set of lights (just after Tesco ) And through the lights by the Civic Hall on your left . Now you will see the sea on your left and a row of guest houses on your right. We are a red and white building on the right four doors up from the Trafalgar Tavern. And about fifty yards before the Bay View public House.
From the West
Leave the M4 at Junction 47, Swansea Exit.
At the roundabout take the right exit A483 towards Swansea.
Follow the A483 for approx. 2 miles, taking the first exit left at the small roundabout. Go straight on at the next set of lights, passing a large Tesco store on your right, through another three smaller sets of lights until you come to a major set of traffic lights not long after passing a petrol station situated on your left. The road splits into 3 lanes at these lights, so you need to get into the third lane in order to turn right onto the A4216 (Station road)- signed posted to the Gower. Go straight over next two junctions. At the next junction the road is a staggered, continue on the A4216 which is centre-right and sign posted to the hospital, and now called Cockett road. After a couple of miles you get to a junction by the Vivian Public House and a major set of traffic lights. Go straight across the junction into Vivian road (still the A4216). At the end of the road turn left into Sketty Park (still A4216)heading down hill. At the roundabout take the first left. Passing the hospital on your left. At the end of the road you come to the junction with the main coast road. Turn left into Oystermouth Road. Continue towards the town centre. The sea will be on your right and you will pass the university, then the park, then St Helen's Rugby/Cricket ground on your left. You will the see a pub called the Bay View on your left. Followed by a row of guest houses. We are about a hundred yards after the Bay View. Number 364 (a red and white building) just after a piece of open land.

There is so much to see and do in Swansea and so many attractions in Swansea . In fine weather it will be difficult to drag yourself from the beautiful beaches of the Gower. Gower was the first area in Great Britain to be designated an area of outstanding natural beauty and as soon as you see it you will understand why. It is a favourite location for walkers and families and offers a perfect get a way from city life. With so many beaches and small isolated bays it is usually possible to find a beach to yourself!
For more information about our location and local attractions there is a list of links at the bottom of this page.
You might even be lucky enough to see the filming of Dr Who. One of our guests who was attending the annual Dr Who convention which is held in Swansea (usually in October). She stayed a couple of extra days to visit the Gower and stumbled across them filming in Rhossili. Russell Davis writer/director of the series lives in Swansea and uses the area for filming.
For more information about our location and local attractions around Swansea there is a list of links supplied below: Getting around by bus in now easier as the city buses now to use Oystermouth Road. Also you can get a Day Explorer Ticket for £4.OO to explore the Gower. For Mumbles and Pennard A First Day Swansea City Ticket is also £4.00. These tickets allow you to make as many trips as you want in the day. For more information we highly recommend you go to www.baytrans.org.uk. This not only gives you all the timetables and information you need but details many walks, attractions, places to eat and lots more.

Gower Walking Festival June 2011
The 2011 Festival will be the biggest yet. Organised by the Mumbles Tourist Association, the voluntary management body of the Mumbles Tourist Information Centre, the Festival's continuing popularity means that there are now over 50 guided walks on the programme, spread out over sixteen days, around glorious Gower, Mumbles and other local settings.
The Gower Peninsula was the first in Britain to be designated an Area of Outstanding National Beauty in 1956, and the Festival is designed to cover as much of it as possible, as well as provide walks with added interest, such as Birds, Bats, Photography, Nordic Walking and History Walks. If you are visiting Wales, and like walking, you mustn't miss it.
The brochure - in English - will give details of all walks, and will be available to download on our website from January 2012. If you'd like us to email you when it is available, or if you'd prefer us to post a copy to you, please click on info@mumblestic.co.uk and enter your details. The Mumbles TIC can also help arrange accommodation in the area for your visit.
